A few weeks ago I went on a little shopping spree, as you do, and didn’t have a ton of money to spend on myself but I wanted to get myself something special. It’s really rewarding when you don’t have a lot of money to just celebrate your super saving resolve by getting little treats now and then.
My Mom asked me what I might want to buy for this little treat-myself day and I suddenly remembered these glasses I have been looking for FOR-EVER.
If you now me you might know that I’m obsessed with aesthetic, especially Instagram aesthetic and Tumblr aesthetic.
Yes. I’m one of those people. I’m sorry.
But be that as it might, every cute, nerdy, intelligent looking, make-up-freckled girl on Instagram has these round over-sized glasses. You’ve seen the Snapchat filter, you know what I’m talking about: Round, over-sized, adorable superfluous metal rimmed glasses.
As much as I pride myself in being a snobbish hipster who isn’t swayed by trends I was swayed by this one and I couldn’t seem to find them anywhere.
This, I decided, was the thing to buy, if we could find it. I think it’s been around for awhile now, so I was sure someone would have it. Just in case I didn’t find my darlings I bought “Be More Chill” at Barns and Noble on the way over. I didn’t want the day to be a total botch and if you’re not aware every self respecting bookworm/theater nerd has read that so I figured being the aspiring bookstagramer that I am it was a must.
By the end of the day my Mom and I had peeked into pretty much every store in the mall only to find the trends I didn’t get and/or price tags that made me consider only shopping resale for the rest of my life, but at the end of the mall was the ever faithful Forever 21 and lo and behold there they were. There were only two pair left, but there they sat as proud as an over-filtered Instagram photo the round, metal rimmed glasses and I do believe I squealed like a kid in a candy store.
Long story short I bought them and they looked on point, it fulfilled all my Instagram look-alike model dreams so I did a quick online search to discover they’re only getting more popular. Your chances of finding these aesthetic beauties seems better than ever, and while the hipster part of me grumbles that if it’s that popular it’s not cool anymore, another side of me is secretly glad that there may be a lot more metal rimmed glasses in my future.
Here’s to being superficial every now and then treating yourself to something that makes you feel smart and savy.
Until next time hero, stay epic.
